And then there were 10...

Today on Wonders in the Dark, Allan Fish kicks off the final stretch of his ambitious Top 100 silents countdown with The Battleship Potemkin at #10. What movies will fill the final nine slots - especially with such classics as Pandora's Box, Intolerance, The Gold Rush, and The Birth of a Nation already accounted for? Be sure to visit and found out, as the countdown finishes over the next week and a half. And don't forget to vote in the poll for your own picks.

To catch up with the rest of the selections (including the top 25 for the 30s, and the top 50 for every decade since - except for the one just passed, which Allan will be tackling next), visit the round-up on my blog.

  1. I have a sneaking suspicion that the cagey Mr. Fish will be going with Erich Von Stroheim's "Greed" as his Number 1 choice. But it's been quite a ride.

  2. Aye Joel, and this begins the final choices in what must certainly be considered the most auspicious, authoritative and exhaustive examination of silent cinema ever attempted on the net. Although Allan's expertise is consumate in all genres, his knowledge and appreciation of silent cinema is tops! Your own regular support and enthusiasm for him and this fantastic countdown is all second to none!

  3. Well, since we're not on Wonders, and are free to make predictions, I agree with you, Peter! Either that or Passion of Joan of Arc, but Greed's much more Fish-style, for so many reasons! I think I know all of the upcoming, save 1 (not placement of course, though it might be fun to try and predict that). Knowing Allan's penchant for surprise, I would not be surprised if Greed pops up at #2 and leaves #1 a mystery.

As for Sam, well it's second to yours certainly! You've given him a great platform to unveil his lists, and I'm sure he's grateful, however curmudgeonly!
